AI assistants
The AI assistants report shows what ChatGPT, Gemini and other assistants sold for your store, and how each sale came in.
The numbers at the top
Section titled “The numbers at the top”The four numbers follow the dates you choose at the top of the page.
- AI sales is the net sales of the orders AI brought.
- AI orders is how many orders AI brought.
- Share of all sales compares AI sales with the net sales of all orders placed in those dates.
- New customers from AI counts buyers who hadn’t ordered before. Guest checkouts count as new.
Unpaid, cancelled and fully refunded orders aren’t in this report. An order can count in AI sales and also be credited to a creator, so don’t add AI sales to your creators’ or sources’ totals.
To see the orders behind the numbers:
-
Click the AI orders number, or View orders in the Assistants card.
-
The Orders page opens with the AI orders filter on. Click an order to open its page.
How AI brought sales
Section titled “How AI brought sales”Every AI order is one of three kinds.

- In chat: the shopper bought through the assistant, not on your store.
- Clicked: the shopper clicked a link in the chat, then bought.
- Recommended: the shopper chose an AI answer in your survey.
One order can fit two kinds. ThanksTo checks them in the order above and stops at the one that fits, so each order counts once and the three kinds add up to AI sales.
AI also helped counts orders credited elsewhere whose last visit came from an assistant. They aren’t in AI sales.
What AI tracking can’t see
Section titled “What AI tracking can’t see”AI sales are the sales ThanksTo can connect to an assistant. Some orders that started in an AI chat can’t be connected to it.
- A tip with no click. An assistant names your store, and the shopper types your address. The visit shows as Direct. Your survey can pick this up as Recommended.
- A click with no source. If a chat app doesn’t pass on where the click came from, the visit also shows as Direct.
- Shoppers who block tracking. Ad blockers and declined cookie consent hide some buyers’ visits. Those orders can still get the source Shopify recorded.
- Shoppers who skip the survey. Recommended counts shoppers who answered.
- Other assistants. ThanksTo knows ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, DeepSeek, Gemini, Grok, Meta AI, Meta Muse, Mistral, Perplexity, Poe and You.com by name. A click from any other assistant doesn’t count as an AI sale.
If something looks wrong
Section titled “If something looks wrong”- Recommended shows 0. The card tells you why. See Post-purchase survey.
- AI sales differ from the AI assistants row in Analytics. This is expected. An order bought in chat or with an AI answer in your survey counts here even if another source has the credit.
